Holiday thoughts

As we enter the holiday season, the media expectations that everyone be exuberantly happy actually makes some people depressed, especially if they are alone, have suffered a loss, or are going through some difficult life transitions. If we cut through the media hype about how much new stuff we acquire and focus on the real meaning of the holidays, there is consolation in the fact that it is not about stuff at all. I have always hated the worship of material things this time of year. I cannot speak for any other faiths, but the true meaning of Christmas is about generosity and hospitality, and the true meaning of Thanksgiving is about giving thanks for the privileges of our lives. If we all just take the time this year to stop worrying about Black Friday, and instead think of whom we can help this season, we will find much more satisfaction and joy in Christmas. Serve Christmas dinner to the poor instead of focusing on material things that don't matter in the larger scheme of things. Donate winter clothing to the Salvation Army, food to the food pantry, and lend a hand wherever you find the opportunity. And this Thanksgiving, why not take the time to actually verbalize what we are thankful for before we partake of our feast? After all most Americans are wealthy by world standards, and many never take the time to appreciate it. This year, let us love not only our own family and friends, but others as well. Therein lies the true joy of the season.

Dear Phishers

Please, those of you who are on a phishing expedition on my blog, and obviously have not even read it, do us both a favor and please cease and desist.

Book signings successful

I have had three book signings so far...one at Breakwater Books in Guilford, one at Fresh Ayer Gallery in Old Lyme, and one at Bank Square Books in Mystic. The Path to Real and Lasting Inner Peaceis available at these locations, and other independent bookstores, as well as Barnes and Noble. But the real high point was receiving 5 of 5 stars on my ForeWord Clarion Review. Marketing a book is new territory for me, but it is exciting, and in addition I am getting positive feedback from readers. This is a whole new way to share wisdom and insights with those who need them.

Workshop postponed

The workshop on the Pharmacology of Fibromyalgia has been postponed indefinitely, due to the presenter's workload. I still am interested in sponsoring it, and should he have time to do it in the future, I will surely let you know.
